Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Sokoro
General Questions
What is Sokoro?
Sokoro is a community-driven platform that connects people who need help with everyday tasks (Seekers) with people who have time to help and earn money (Sokoros). We make it easy, safe, and affordable to get things done or earn flexibly on your own schedule.
Where is Sokoro available?
We're launching first in Calgary and Toronto, Canada. We're currently building our waitlist. Join now to be notified when we launch in your area!
How is Sokoro different from other platforms?
Unlike rideshare or delivery apps, Sokoros don't need a car, bike, or special equipment—just time and willingness to help. We focus on everyday micro-tasks that make life easier, with transparent pricing and community-first values.
Is Sokoro safe?
Yes! All users go through identity verification. Sokoros and Seekers both have profiles with ratings and reviews. Payments are secure and held until task completion. Our 24/7 support team is here to help resolve any issues.
For Seekers (Needing Help)
How do I post a task?
Simply describe what you need help with, add photos or notes if helpful, set your budget, and choose your timeline. Posting takes under a minute. Local Sokoros will see your task and send bids.
How much does it cost?
You set your budget or let Sokoros bid competitively. Typical tasks range from $15-80 depending on complexity and time required. You'll see all costs upfront before choosing a Sokoro. There are no hidden fees.
How do I choose the right Sokoro?
Review profiles, ratings, reviews, and bids. Chat with Sokoros before deciding. Choose based on price, availability, ratings, and your gut feeling. We make it easy to compare options.
What if I'm not happy with the work?
Payments are held securely until you approve task completion. If there's an issue, contact our support team immediately. We have dispute resolution processes and refund protection in place.
How do I pay?
All payments happen securely in-app using credit/debit cards or digital wallets. Funds are held until you confirm task completion, then released to the Sokoro automatically.
Can I cancel a task?
Yes, you can cancel before a Sokoro starts working. If work has already begun, cancellation fees may apply depending on timing and circumstances. Check our cancellation policy for details.
What types of tasks are allowed?
Most everyday tasks are allowed: errands, pickups, deliveries, light cleaning, event setup, pet care, shopping assistance, and more. Tasks must be legal, safe, and respectful. We don't allow tasks that involve financial transactions on behalf of the Seeker, handling medications, or anything potentially dangerous.
For Sokoros (Earning Money)
How do I become a Sokoro?
Sign up on our platform, complete identity verification, set up your profile and payment method. Once verified, you can start browsing tasks and submitting bids immediately.
What do I need to get started?
Just a smartphone, valid ID for verification, and willingness to help. No car, bike, or special equipment required—though some tasks may benefit from having access to transportation.
How much can I earn?
Most Sokoros earn $20-50 per hour depending on task type, location, and your efficiency. You set your own rates through competitive bidding. High-rated Sokoros often earn more.
When do I get paid?
Payments are released immediately when Seekers mark tasks complete. Funds typically arrive in your account within 1-3 business days via direct deposit or your chosen payment method.
What fees does Sokoro charge?
Sokoro takes a 20% service fee from each completed task. You keep 80% of what you earn. Transparent pricing, no hidden fees. For example, if you complete a $50 task, you receive $40.
Do I have to work minimum hours?
No! There's zero minimum commitment. Work as much or as little as you want, whenever you want. Accept tasks that fit your schedule and decline the rest.
Can I choose which tasks to accept?
Absolutely! You're in full control. Browse available tasks, see all details upfront, and only bid on or accept tasks that interest you and fit your schedule.
What if a Seeker is difficult or unreasonable?
You can decline tasks, communicate clearly about expectations, and contact our support team if issues arise. Both Sokoros and Seekers rate each other, so problematic users build poor reputations over time.
How do ratings work?
After each completed task, both Sokoros and Seekers rate each other (1-5 stars) and can leave reviews. Your rating appears on your profile and affects your visibility and earning potential. Higher ratings = more opportunities.
Am I an employee of Sokoro?
No, Sokoros are independent contractors. You set your own schedule, choose which tasks to accept, and control how you work. You're responsible for your own taxes and expenses.
Safety & Trust
How does verification work?
All users provide government-issued ID and complete identity verification. Sokoros undergo additional background checks. Verification badges appear on profiles to show who's been verified.
Are payments secure?
Yes! We use industry-standard encryption and secure payment processors. Seeker payments are held in escrow until task completion. Sokoro earnings are protected and released promptly after approval.
What if something goes wrong during a task?
Contact our 24/7 support team immediately via in-app chat or phone. We have protocols for disputes, damages, safety concerns, and emergencies. Both parties are protected.
Can I communicate outside the app?
We strongly recommend keeping all communication in-app for your safety and protection. In-app messages are monitored for safety, help with disputes, and ensure accountability.
What information is shared between users?
Only necessary information: first name, profile photo, ratings, and task-specific details. Full names, addresses, and contact information remain private unless shared voluntarily.
Is there insurance coverage?
We're working on insurance options for added protection. Currently, we recommend Sokoros and Seekers carry appropriate personal insurance. Details coming soon.
Payments & Fees
What payment methods are accepted?
Seekers can pay using credit cards, debit cards, and digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay). Sokoros receive payments via direct deposit to their bank account or e-transfer.
Are there any hidden fees?
No! All fees are transparent and shown upfront. Seekers see total cost before confirming. Sokoros see their earnings (after 20% platform fee) before accepting tasks.
Can I tip my Sokoro?
Yes! After task completion, you can add a tip through the app. 100% of tips go directly to the Sokoro (no platform fees on tips).
What's your refund policy?
If a task is not completed as agreed, you can request a full or partial refund. Our support team reviews cases individually. Payments are held until you approve completion, so you're protected.
